Ducks hold off Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres dropped the second game of the year against the Ducks; going 0-2 against the Western Conference team. Patrick Lalime was in net for both games.

The first game was a scheduled showing by Lalime on a lengthy West coast road trip. Tonights game was in relief of an injured Ryan Miller.

The Sabres failed to capitalize tonight, keeping Anaheim without a shot for a length of time in the second period. before succumbing to the physical forecheck style play that Anaheim brings.  The only Sabres goals coming from Ales Kotalik, and a Paul Gausted deflection of a Kotalik slapshot.

Lalime did not play bad, which is what the Sabres need right now, but at the same time the team needs to play better in front of their net minder to have a chance to make the playoffs.

They still might be able to squeek in with an eight seed, unless they hit a hot streak, or Miller comes back early from his injury.

One game is not going to be a fair barometer of how this team is going to fair without its top goaltender; but the Sabres are not helping themselves in the standings when they fail to get a much needed two points, not only to cushion their lead on non-playoff teams, but in the tightly packed Eastern Conference, to jump ahead of the teams in front of them.
