Jhonas Enroth could get his first NHL regular season start with the Buffalo Sabres today. With Patrick Lalime questionable after waking up yesterday with flu-like systems, the rookie could find himself with a rare start.
The Sabres were not expecting the 46th overall selection in last years draft to start for the parent club this or next year, but injuries and illness have pushed the Swede to the edge of the crease.
This could be a good time for Lindy to return to his defensive mind that dominated most of his early years here in Buffalo, a system that he was persecuted for, because the Sabres couldn’t score enough. Team defense is going to be important in front of the struggling rookie netminder, as he was 0-6-3 in his last nine starts in Portland.
An 0-6-3 goaltender does not have his head in a real good place. If he does start, the team is going to have to shut down the Carolina Hurricanes, and get on top early, to help this kid find a rhythm. If Carolina gets on Enroth early, the game could be over real quick.
