Sabres beat Habs, only gain one point on top eight

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tony Lydman gained hero status in the locker room last night; as the only skater to score during last nights shootout.
With the win, the Sabres pulled within closer reach of the playoffs, however Montreal was able to get one point, keeping pace above the Sabres.
The Sabres are still having problems holding a lead, they needed a late rush against Toronto to win that game, and folded a 2 goal lead against Montreal by allowing three unanswered goals, needing one of their own to tie the game and set up the overtime stanza.
The magic number is now set at 5 with [...]

Tonight is the biggest night of the year for a Buffalo Sabres team destined to make the playoffs.  If they can beat the Montreal Canadiens tonight, they are only three points out of the race, a loss puts them seven points back.  Forget three point games meaning anything this time of the year, the four point games are huge for Buffalo right now.
They almost let it slip away the other night against Toronto, but managed to stay ahead of the battling Leafs, a team even I didn’t give enough respect to.  Supposed to be sellers awaiting the draft lottery, they [...]

Fitting video

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

So I have been meaning to put some video’s on here to help the rabid Sabres fan get more pumped up for games, and honestly haven’t found any that are really good just yet.  I did stumble across this one today and, although some of the names are gone to other teams now, the pictures and names are merely background the song is what I laughed at.  So as the season wraps up, enjoy!

Game Night: Sabres vs Maple Leafs

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Lucky number 7.  That is how many points the Sabres need to catch the Montreal Canadiens.  It seems a very large number, however, a win tonight brings you withing 5, and then you play the Canadiens, beat them and the number is 3.  In just two games you have a very interesting playoff race brewing, lose tonight or Saturday, and the mountain may seem insurmountable.
Ryan Miller returns to the crease tonight in the hopes of helping his team limp into the playoffs.  But make one thing for sure, he is no saviour; wanting only to play his game as best [...]

Miller to return to the crease

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ryan Miller will return as the Buffalo Sabres starting goaltender on Friday night.  Miller will take control of his crease, which in his absence has been tended by backup Patrick Lalime and deadline day acquisition Mikael Tellqvist.
The playoffs on the line, the return may be too little too late depending on the outcome of tonights game against Florida.

Gamenight: Sabres vs Panthers

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Sabres are 2-1 against the Florida Panthers this year.  The Panthers, normally tame house cats at this time of the year, are playing like caged lions, ready to break back into the playoff scene.  It will be interesting to see if the Sabres can overcome some serious deficiencies in order to make the playoffs.  With only an available 20 points left, the Sabres need to make the transition from soft bubble team, to hard nosed competitor really quick.  Its a change that I don’t think can be made.
Good news for Sabres fans – Ryan Miller is close to returning, [...]

Whose to blame?

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

When a team fails to make the playoffs, the media, fans, and the team are quick to point fingers and fire or get rid of those that are supposedly the reason for the teams down slide.
As the Sabres mediocre season is sliding to an abrupt halt, many are calling for the heads of GM Darcy Reiger, head coach Lindy Ruff, and wondering why under achieving players like Max Afinogenov and soft players like Tim Connolly are still on the team.
Lindy Ruff, favorite adopted son of Buffalo is quick to take the sabre in the belly on this one:
When your not [...]

Sabres Game Night: Sabres vs. Rangers

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Game Night, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Sabres continue their limp towards the playoffs with a visit to Madison Square Gardens tonight, where they play the New York Rangers.  The Sabres have a dismal 10-11-3 reord since the All Star Break, and sit five points out of a playoff spot with 11 games remaining.  The New York Rangers sit in the seventh overall seed, six points up on the Sabres.
The good news for the Sabres for tonight, they lead the season series against the blue shirts 3-0.  A win tonight could help turn things around for the swords, and they desperately need it.
With Moore and Butler [...]

Stalled engines

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Sabres no longer have a mountain in front of them.  Last night, former Sabres Danny Briere and Marty Biron put the Sabres in a mine shaft that they have to get out of before thinking of climbing the playoff ladder.
Remember when you were a kid, and blowing bubbles was a fun time?  Remember that nice big one that you watched as it danced across the breeze, stretching out, until it was thin enough that the slightest touch would pop it?  Remember the dissappointment when it did pop?  The Sabres are almost there.
No longer will .500 hockey cut it.  The [...]

Sabres Game Nigt: Sabres vs Flyers

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The hill looks might steep.  At at the bottom of the hill, is the Philadelphia Flyers, a team holding onto 4th playoff spot, and has been for awhile.  The Flyers have dominated the Sabres this year, holding a 3-0 lead in the season series.
In order to help ease the tensions, the Sabres held a “fun” practice; to try and break the ice and get them playing like a cohesive winning team instead of a mess, which is what they have looked like for most of the year.
With just one win in their last five games, and three out of ten [...]
