So I got an interesting text message today:
“Why would the Sabres get rid of one of our best players?”
At first I didn’t know how to respond. Had the Sabres made a deal that wasn’t made public? So I asked the person, “Who”. I almost hit the floor when they responded with Ales Kotalik.
I think it says wonders for the player – he was definitely a fan favorite. But one of our best players? His numbers never made it to even close to being on of the Sabres best. In seven seasons with Buffalo, he managed 20 goals only three times. To put that into perspective, in two more seasons played (9) Maxim Afinogenov also only scored 20 or more 3 times.
Lindy Ruff also sounded on the verge of tears when discussing the winger, as the coach and player obviously had a great relationship over the course of time Kotalik was in Buffalo.
All good things must come to an end, and Kotalik’s time in Buffalo is over.
