Former Sabre Ales Kotalik had to know his name was being shopped around by GM Darcy Reiger leading up to the trade deadline. He was in the last year of his deal, and the team was looking to add to a roster that was poised to jump into the playoff race, and make a run at winning in the playoffs. It didn’t make the news any less shocking for the player the Sabres drafted in 1998, and has been with full time for six seasons now.
To be honest with you, I was shocked [by the trade]. I was in Buffalo for a long time. The first couple of hours were a tough pill to swallow.
New Sabre Dominic Moore should be in the lineup to replace Kotalik tonight, pending the working project on this work visa. Moore is a much more physical player than Kotalik, something he took a lot of grief for despite his larger frame.
