Ok, so I know the Buffalo Sabres of 2008-2009 are no where near the level of players that formed the 1980 United States Gold Medal hockey team, but after last nights game it was fitting.
The Buffalo Sabres overcame a flurry of Russian players last night in order to win and keep their very slim playoff hopes alive.
Alexander Ovechkin (Moscow, USSR), Alexander Semin (Krasjonarsk, USSR), Sergei Federov (Pskov, USSR), and goaltender Simeon Varlamov (Samara, USSR) all made it very difficult on the Sabres last night.
But the efforts of the Russians merely allowed the Capitals to clinch the Southeast Division, and doing so in a somber manner, with Jason Pominville claiming the second point in overtime.
The Sabres don’t have too much time to enjoy their victory, as its back home to face the New Jersey Devils.
