Miller was seated on the bench for the third period against the New Jersey Devils as the Buffalo Sabres found themselves in a 3-0 hole.
He didn’t play horrible, the team in front of him was. It was the right move. The frantic Sabres responded to the desperation move, firing off 23 shots in the final frame, but only connecting on 21 of them, falling to the Devils 3-2.
It was a squandered opportunity to pull within two points of a playoff race, as the Rangers lost to the Bruins during an afternoon game.
The Sabres now conclude the season against the Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Hurricanes and Bruins, all teams they need to beat. Had they won last night, a simple winout would put them in the playoffs, now they again leave destiny in the hands of others.
