Destiny, dynasty, or Eastern mediocracy?

Detroit is looking to steam roll over the Pittsburgh Penguins in route to another Stanley Cup Championship. Good for them.

What happened to the Eastern Conference? The Eastern Conference semi-finals against Pittsburgh and Washington was what hockey was all about. Now it seems like hockey’s golden children in Pittsburgh are once again folding under the pressures of the biggest show in the league.

Granted, Pittsburgh is not out of the series yet, but Detroit is not going to let them back into a contest which can be all but wrapped up before the league was even scheduled to start the finals round.

Does the NHL need a dynasty in Detroit – or do they need parody and a different winner every year? If you ask anyone in Detroit, bring on the octopi year after year. Ask Malkin, Crosby, or Ovechkin – its time for an Eastern Conference winner.
