Chris Chelios wants to play another year in the NHL. That would make him the second oldest man to play in the NHL, and the oldest American, as he trails Mr. Hockey himself – but Gordie has nothing to worry about, Chelios just wants one more year.
Oh Darcy, are you listening? Your team lacks leadership, your blue line has some issues – and the answer just made it known that his time in Detroit is through, and he wants to play another year.
The fans in Buffalo will love it, a sob story through and through, I can see the headlines now, “Seasoned veteran Future Hall of Famer Stanley Cup Champion Chris Chelios chooses Buffalo to retire from.” It doesn’t matter that he will go into the Hall with a different sweater on, this city doesn’t care; we just want to see some change.
Its no Chicago, its no Detroit, but Buffalo has a little bit of hockey history, and I think Chelios will step in the locker room where Rivet was supposed to have.
In a club that likes to mature its younger players, what better tool to utilize than a player who has played the game longer than most of our guys have been alive.
