The next hurdle for the Buffalo Sabres before we can entertain thoughts of seeing that clean sheet of ice again is free agency.

As I consider writing some of the names the Sabres have lost on this day in history, recent history even, I find myself reaching for my maximum strength Maalox Advanced formula (Cherry flavored, for those wondering).  This year should be no different – except the names are not as big as in years past.

We all know Maxim Afinogenov has played his last game as a Sabre, I have said since about mid season that Max will probably end up playing in the Russian KHL next year.  I think he will do better in the European style game.

At the close of the season I figured Andrew Peters to be back, he is the closest thing to a tough guy the Sabres have.  After the muscle bound draft the Sabres had this year, I would not be surprised to find his agent trying to find work for him.

The Sabres had Tim Connolly signed before the end of the season, and have been in contact with Jaro Spaceks agent.  I wouldn’t mind seeing Jaro back on this team, it definitely opens up the trade talks for Lydman and Tallinder.  As we creep closer and closer to the mid summer ulcer, I mean opening of free agency I see him donning a different sweater next season.
