While we patiently await the start of training camp and the regular season, its always a good idea to reflect upon the best of times, and the worst of times. Here are hockey’s best and worst fashion designs of all time, and yes, the Sabres show up in both categories.
Check out Pucks and Pitchforks to see our blogger Kevin’s top ten best jerseys of all time. Classic list that has all my old favorites, to include the original Sabres jersey. My only suggestion [...]

The Buffalo Sabres energized a fan base and stole the Eastern Conference away from the other teams two years running before getting eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The last two years the Sabres were mired into tenth place, but claim to have been a few pieces away from contention. Those pieces have still yet to arrive.
With the exodus of decent players via free agency continuing, the Sabres are restocking the bench with inexperienced players from the minors, instead of signing impact free agents, clinging to the age old point in Buffalo that big spending at free agent is not a [...]
The Buffalo Sabres have released their 2009 pre season schedule. They will play six games this year, four road contests and two home contests.
HSBC arena will host Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on September 17. Toronto blows into Buffalo on the 23rd. Both games are 7 pm starts.
The Sabres will visit Toronto, Detroit, Montreal, and Washington to complete the pre season and trim down the roster to 20 guys.
While it doesn’t feel like hockey, there are no ads on the boards and their is really no intensity to the games, its nice to see that thin sheet of ice [...]
Sabres sign two
The Buffalo Sabres have tied down defensemen Andrej Sekera to a multi-year deal. Sekera did much to impress management by being as consistent as a rookie blue liner can be. He will be a good addition to a defensive core that is trying to rebuild its image.
The Sabres have also come to terms on a one year deal with Clarke MacArthur.
With the release of the 2009-2010 schedule, the Sabres are going to find themselves in a jam if they do not shore up in certain areas. There are however, some dates to highlight on your calender. Here is a breakdown of important events/dates to look for this year.
October 3rd, 2009 – The start of the season. It also marks the second year in a row the Sabres will start against the Montreal Canadiens, and the return of Jaroslav Spacek. Montreal is a much different looking team than they were last year, so it will be tough to gauge how these [...]

The Foligno leap first crept into the NHL in 1979 when energetic Mike Foligno leapt for joy over his first NHL goal; and then every one after that in a career that spanned over 1,000 NHL games. Only twice did the leap not occur, once in Buffalo during an 8-1 rout of the New Jersey Devils, and once in Toronto after returning from a broken leg. Negative fan mail after those two incidents ensured that there would always be a leap of joy when Foligno scored a goal.
The leap returned to the NHL in 2007, on October 19, when Foligno’s son [...]
Despite missing the playoffs for two years in a row, Darcy Regier has made little or no effort to make sweeping changes to a roster that has regularly under performed.
Instead of calling out his GM, and demanding better players, Lindy Ruff is content with the players he has:
We were knocking on the middle of the Eastern Conference when Ryan [Miller] got hurt. We can’t stand around and make excuses, but you can explain sometimes why you didn’t get there, and I think that’s one explanation.
So the answer to the Sabres playoff woes – is to hope that Tim Connolly doesn’t [...]
In the rearview mirror…
Lets take a look back at history through the perspective of the Sabres rear view mirror.
Lets start with the year of the lockout. When the team looked in their rear view mirror, they saw many fans..drifting away, and a league that might not come back from the labor stoppage. They needed to find a way to keep that from happening.
One year goes by, and the Sabres look up into their rear view mirror once play resumes, and since they had a team built for the new NHL, there was no one close enough to worry about, the Sabres easily ran away [...]
