Who will stay and who will go now?

Posted by: Tim Redinger

Check out this article on Die by the Blade discussing the roster juggling that Darcy Rieger will have to do in order to put a complete roster together under the salary cap for the 2009-2010 season.

The Sabres have a good amount of young players that might be bundled together, but the problem I see is that Rieger is going to be handcuffed by what is probably the Sabres biggest weakpoints, and that is their love for their players.

Sabres management seems to get in an infatuated state with some of their players, often putting more actual value into them than the rest of the league sees.  I think that is most evident in the contracts given to Tim Connolly – he keeps getting hurt but the Sabres continue to give him a pay raise.

I would not mind seeing the Sabres move Pominville, Hecht, and either Tallinder or Lydman.  This will free up considerable cap space – and make the team better overall.
