On the to do list of the Toronto Maple Leafs this season is a big one, stop being the joke of one of the top divisions in hockey. The Sabres will try and keep them under in tonights matchup.
Maple Leafs games are extremely popular in the Buffalo area, and on many given nights in the regular season, HSBC Arena is invaded in force, and the feel is more like a Toronto home game than a Sabres game. I have actually stopped going to Toronto games for that reason.
Tonights game should be a good one for Buffalo fans, as training camp is beginning to wind down and rosters spots start becoming at a premium. Out of the running for a job with the gold and blue this year are many young prospects, all of which have returned to the Portland Pirates of the AHL.
On the blue-line, the Sabres returned TJ Brennan, Matt Generous, Mike Kostka, Dennis Persson, and Drew Schiestel.
Goaltender JP Lamourex has been assigned to Portland, narrowing a goaltending position down to what will probably be Ryan Miller and Patrick Lalime on opening night.
Sabres frontmen Paul Byron, Tyler Ennis, Brad Larson, Maxim Legault, Mark McCutcheon, Kyle Rank, Travis Turnbull, and Derek Whitmore will don a Pirates sweater this year.
Patrick Lalime will get tonight off, as he played the full 60 against Washington the other night.
Tyler Myers will continue his push for an NHL job this year tonight, as he continues to improve in quick fashion, and making it very difficult for Ruff and Co. to send him to Portland.
