Valhalla has Odin, Mount Olympus has Zeus, and the NHL has Gretzky. A fair comparison given the gifts and talents of number 99. But what is next for the prodigal son of the ice rink?
After a stellar career on the ice, he turned to owner ship and coaching, which he has been far from succesful at.
He has one of the greatest hockey minds for him not to land another job in the NHL. As part owner of the Coyotes he can’t really take a job right now with another team, but who knows what is going to happen with him after the sale of the limping Coyotes from Glendale.
It hasn’t taken long for the offers to start rolling in. Hockey Canada is already calling the AP reports, as Steve Yzerman has called upon the Great One to help out in the Olympic area for Canada. How far away from that is the conversation where Yzerman convices Gretzky that the Red Wings could really use his services? You can’t honestly think that between two of of the greatest modern generation players to come from Canada that the conversation hasn’t been brought up?
I personally don’t care where Gretzky ends up, as long as he ends up somewhere in the NHL – it would be a waste of pure talent for him not to try and pass on some of his skills to a younger generation of hockey. But then again, greatness can’t be taught if you were born with a puck in hand.
