Sabres lose first game in regulation

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Sabres did their part on Saturday night to make any Buffalo fan fitful on Halloween night.
After matching the second best start in franchise history, the Sabres put together a woeful effort as Marty Biron eared his 200th win in stylish fashion, blanking his former mates.
While his former back up saw success at one end of the ice, his current teammates left Ryan Miller out to dry.  If you want to relinquish some of the blame off Miller based on the play of the team in front of him, you have to put some blame on Lindy for even [...]

Does your team make the list for most frightful sports franchise?  Check here to find out if your in the top ten.
Are the Sabres going to scare you again with their play tonight against the Islanders?  Check out these links for an update on tonights matchup and a recap of beggars night at the arena:
Sabres skip on morning skate because of illnesses.
See what Toronto fans and writers have to say about the game last night at Pension Plan Puppets – I wouldn’t call Myers overrated, just young and new at the NHL game.  [...]

Disappointing loss?

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Game Night, NHL, Players, Sabres | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Despite having the leagues worst record, Toronto fans still filled HSBC arena in masses large enough to make it sound, at times like a Leafs home game.  Thats an embarrasing statement for a Sabres team playing like an elite level team in the NHL.
With about 36 seconds to play, the Maple Leafs scored a controversial goal that went to review, pending contact to the puck with a high stick.  As the referee pointed towards center ice I had looked away from the television.  From the reaction from the crowd I thought he had waived the goal off, but no, he [...]

Hockey Halloween

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Is there something more scary than an Ovechkin breakaway, Jim Balsillie lurking in the shadows of a failing team, or the New Jersey Devils trap?  You be the judge in this edition of Hockey Halloween.
What about the Camrose Wild Rose Arena in Alberta Canada?  Truthful stories or a dying arena and small town in Alberta trying to get fifteen minutes of fame?

What could be scarier or gorier than having a razor sharp skate slice through a major artery in your neck – or worse, what are the odds that it will happen twice in the same city, albeit years apart:

Or how [...]

Sabres Gamenight: Toronto Maple Leafs

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tonight is Beggar’s night, where kids across the country are bouncing from house to house seeking treats from their neighbors.
Brian Burke will be in town doing the same thing, except he will be begging for Ryan Miller to give him a win.  I wouldn’t count on it.
If the Sabres can jump out to a fast lead and take any life out of the hapless Leafs, red, yellow and brown won’t be the only color leaves on Washington tonight.
While a Buffalo home game against Toronto usually means a flood of Toronto blue into our arena, if there are any brave Maple [...]

Sabres stay undefeated on road

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Sabres used the odd periods to book end a 4-1 beating of the New Jersey Devils.  The way the game started it looked like the Sabres offense was going to blow the game away before it started.  After netting two quick goals by MacArthur and hometown boy Tim Kennedy, the Sabres were unable to beat Martin Brodeur for quite some time.
Andy Greene was the only Devil able to solve Miller, beating the goaltender on a power play.
Sloppy play almost cost the game for the Sabres, but capitalizing on New Jersey mistakes the Sabres were able to put it [...]

Sabres Gamenight: New Jersey Devils

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Sabres look to continue a road trip that has them taking four out of four possible points.  They also look to continue their undefeated road streak.  They look to do that tonight against the New Jersey Devils.

The biggest story-line of tonights game, and there is no pun inteded, is the six foot eight inch defensemen the Sabres have on their roster.  This is the decision game for rookie prospect Tyler Myers.  This is the last game the Sabres have to “evaluate” him before having to decide on sending him down to Kelowna.  Myers has proven that he has [...]

NH1N1L

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: NHL | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Injuries and illnesses are a part of the game. Ask the Tampa Bay Lightning. Last year as they rolled to one of the worst records in the league, they lost over 300 man games to injuries and illness. The year they won the Stanley Cup the number was only in the 50s.
So far the H1N1 virus has attacked three players. Teams have been very good at quarantining players who have showed the signs and symptoms of the flu.
Capitals F Laing, Avalanche goaltender Budaj, and defensemen Smid from Edmonton have all contracted the [...]

Another year is the difference maker?

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Last year at this point in the season the Buffalo Sabres were enjoying life on the high side, having cruised out of the gate to a 6-0-2 record, and looked like they might be able to shake off the year of missed playoff chances and excuses.
Several cold spells and injuries to Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek and the Sabres ended the season with the same results as the previous year, on the outside looking in, and making excuses for one or two missed points that would have had them in the playoffs.
It almost feels like a dreaded repeat as the [...]

Tyler Myers wins game in Shootout

AUTHOR: Tim Redinger | IN: NHL, Players, Sabres | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Dear Bruce Hamilton,
I hope this letter finds you well.  I wanted to send you a picture out of your past.  It is your near past the picture is from, so you should still recognize the face.
Can you see him?  It’s your old MVP, Tyler Myers.  I know it is nothing knew for you to see him score goals, there was a different reason for this letter.
I wanted to let you know that you shouldn’t expect to see Myers back in Kelowna this season, or ever really.  Myers will be in town however, on January 25th when he will be playing [...]
