Major Injuries on Monday Night Hockey

AUTHOR: | IN: NHL | COMMENTS: None Yet

You heard it on Rink Side Rants – and I have talked about it here.  The Florida Panthers are a very frustrated hockey team, that frustration boiled over into a senseless injury tonight for goaltender Vokoun. After letting in a goal, Vokoun was struck in the side of the head with Keith Ballards stick, as a frustrated Ballard attempted to accost the goalpost in disgust of the play. This is another major injury for Florida that they will have to deal with, as it is not that far of a distant memory that Panther fans awaited word on Richard Zednik.  [...]

Sabres Game Night: Toronto Maple Leafs

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Night, NHL, Players, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

What a weekend to be in Buffalo, for me at least.  I was working on a four and a half day weekend, the Sabres are on a winning streak, the Bills throttled the Dolphins, and then Monday comes around.  Damn I hate Monday. The only good thing that comes from Monday is, well for the first time in a month the Sabres play on a Monday night.  And what better team to bring about such a change in the schedule than the woeful Leafs. The magic number the Sabres have to continue thinking about tonight is 6.  Six times in [...]

When it rains, it pours

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Night, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

A very dark cloud hung over the arena tonight, and for forty minutes of play – it seemed destined that the bad luck was destined for the Buffalo Sabres.  The final period of play had the Carolina Hurricanes waving warning flags, and eventually, white surrender flags. Down 1-0 going into the third period because of a terrible Tyler Myers rookie mistake; the Sabres led by a Tyler Myers 3 assists defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1.  Thats 10 goals scored against Carolina in the third period in the last two games. Ryan Miller again continued his league leading play, making several [...]

Scientist find wormhole in Buffalo

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

This is the first hockey game in about a week and a half that I have been able to watch, and I can see that I haven’t missed much in the lines of Sabres hockey. I got my times mixed up for the Friday game against Philadelphia, and that was probably the best chance to see the Sabres win a game. If scientists wish to find a wormhole in the space-time contiuum, they need only look at the foot of Washington Street, in downtown Buffalo.  Remember the first, oh say ten games of the season, the message was clear, this [...]

Feast or Famine in Buffalo

AUTHOR: | IN: NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The past two weeks have been feast or famine for the Buffalo Sabres.  At one point this month they were in clear control of the division, now they barely hold the top spot and a continued losing streak could put them somewhere around eigtht or out of the top seeds completely. It is not too early for the Sabres to be watching themselves in the standings, they can’t afford to get too far behind, a grueling second half of the season is going to be a major test for them, they need all the point they can now.  With games [...]

Sabres Gamenight: Florida Panthers

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Sabres have, as of late, made the Panthers look like, well kittens.  The last meeting between these two games saw the Sabres jump to a very fast 3-0 lead inside the first five minutes of the game.  It was the fastest goalie change I had ever seen in a hockey game. The Sabres have won 11 out of the last 14 meetings againsts the Panthers; and look to put on their fourth four game winning streak of this young season. Here are a couple of Florida based blog previews for tonights game. Anyone who tunes into our weekly [...]

Sabres continue to win important games

AUTHOR: | IN: NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The motto going into the second best start in franchise history was don’t lose two in a row.  With a terrible showing last weekend that put more holes in that theory that Patrick Lalime in net – the Sabres needed to get back to basics and learn how to handle the schedule that the league handed to them, with several stretches of three games in four nights.  Something they struggled wtih last week. The Sabres showed the NHL that they can be ready for that type of schedule, winning all three games this week.  Starting with Edmonton, which was probably [...]

Can the Sabres figure out three in four nights?

AUTHOR: | IN: News, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last weekend was probably the worst weekend to be a Sabres fan so far this year.  The only thing that could have made it look worse was an injury to Ryan Miller or Tim Connelly, but then, that would look too normal. The Sabres fought of the Oilers last night, in a game that I missed largerly in part thanks to a massive migraine.  Note to self, don’t fall asleep in bathtub, water gets cold.  What I won’t miss is either game Friday or Saturday night.  I am hoping the Sabres can figure out how to win on these nights.  [...]

Relocation of an office?

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Night, NHL, Players, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mair’s office has been a staple at HSBC arena for many a season now.  The fans in section 325 might need a new moniker to put up behind their seats. GM Darcy Regier announced earlier today that Adam Mair has been placed on waivers.  Teams have until noon tomorrow to claim him, or he will find himself mentoring the Sabres of tomorrow in Portland, Maine. Always the role player, Adam Mair was a typical fourth line center, who added a lot to the energy part of the game when necessary, a little toughness when it was time to go bare [...]

Flyers push Sabres around

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Night, NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Boston Bruins need to look out tonight.  The Sabres do not like to have five goals scored on them, and the Philadelphia Flyers did just that Friday night. Through the first 12 games of the regular season, it looked as though the Sabres had overcome one of their biggest downfalls – not being tough enough.  Granted, the off game will come, but things looked promising.  And then Philly came to town. The highlight of the night had to be the jerseys.  Although done as a maketing ploy by the Philadelphia Flyers, it was amazing to see WHITE home jerseys.  [...]
