Mair’s office has been a staple at HSBC arena for many a season now. The fans in section 325 might need a new moniker to put up behind their seats.
GM Darcy Regier announced earlier today that Adam Mair has been placed on waivers. Teams have until noon tomorrow to claim him, or he will find himself mentoring the Sabres of tomorrow in Portland, Maine.
Always the role player, Adam Mair was a typical fourth line center, who added a lot to the energy part of the game when necessary, a little toughness when it was time to go bare knuckles, but nothing more.
It was only a matter of time before a move like this was warranted. Starting the season off still recovering from off season surgery, Mair found himself the odd man out even after being found fit for duty. While Buffalo fans have adored the player in his tenure here in Buffalo, it has to be a breath of fresh air knowing that this might be the start of a new beginning. There is bound to be a need for a level headed veteran in the likes of Florida, Carolina, Toronto, Pheonix. Detroit is always looking for a few good veteran role players.
Don’t expect this to be the only roster move the Sabres make. As the defensive corps heals itself up, the Sabres have an extra body on the blue line as well.
