A rare visit to HSBC Arena brings the Blackhawks into Buffalo for contest with the Sabres. This would be a huge two points for Buffalo. This is the second game in a row against division leaders for the Sabres. The last division leader, the Capitals, found out it is very difficult to score against Ryan Miller this year as the Sabres blanked them 3-0.
The game might look a little different tonight, as Lalime will start in net tonight for Buffalo. The last time Lalime took the ice it was for a two game stint in Portland, which he was beat both games. The Sabres are winless with Lalime between the pipes. It must have been a difficult decision for Ruff on goaltending this weekend, as you have the high flying ‘hawks on Friday night, and the stingy Rangers on Saturday. The Sabres will need Ryan Miller in top form Saturday night as it could easily be a very low scoring game.
The Sabres will have to worry about Hossa and Toews, both are on pretty hot scoring streaks. Coming off an injury that delayed his start with the ‘Hawks, Hossa has seven points in his first seven games with his new team. Toews, also coming off an injury has 13 points in the last 14 games.
A look closer at some numbers doesn’t bode well for the Sabres either, as Chicago is 5-0-1 against the Eastern Conference so far this year.
The last game against Chicago came in January of this year, and the Sabres were beat 4-1. History could very well repeat itself.
The Sabres will look to Nathan Gerbe to possibly keep his scoring ways in the NHL, as he was able to net his first NHL goal against Washington.
