Sabres Gamenight: Toronto Maple Leafs

Sorry nothing was posted on Sunday post-Penguins game, I was a healthy scratch as I was trying to get the house ready for the holidays.  I’ll add a few notes here before I start in on Toronto.

Lalime played another excellent game.  While boasting a goals against average of above a 3.00 – he now has only allowed 2 goals in his last two starts (ok – three if you want to count the shootout goal).  Given enough rotation in the net, and this play might continue – and I might have to take back all of the things I once said about Patrick Lalime.

Power play.  There is only one thing to say about the power play from Saturday night and it almost rhymes with the Buffalo Bills.

The offensive woes show in a game like that – despite the fact that Thomas Vanek was out, where are Tim Connolly, Derek Roy, Jochen Hect, Drew Stafford?

Tonight the Sabres have their bitch coming back to town, as the hapless Leafs return for another Round of put the puck behind the Leafs goaltender.  While they have been playing better as of late surging back into relavancy in the Northeast, Toronto has a definite case of loser brain when they play Buffalo.  The Sabres can relate, having the same luck with Ottawa.

The Sabres will need to be on the top of their game, and can’t rely on the good fortunes that Vesa “the glove” Toskala will give them as many gifts as he did the other night.

Since we just saw the Leafs the other night I am going to leave it at that – a game the Sabres need, and probably will win.
