The Buffalo Sabres shouldn’t get use to playing in arenas with less than capacity crowds, but another semi-quiet night awaits them in the deserts of Arizona tonight as they face off against the surprisingly upstart Pheonix Coyotes.
The start of the season saw the ‘yotes future uncertain, in the midst of a bankruptcy battle – something the Sabres can relate to. The other thing the Sabres can relate to – being in the midst of a playoff spot – neither of tonights teams were predicted to be anywhere close to where the teams are.
The best bet for a great game tonight will be the teams relying on their starting goaltenders, Ryan Miller and Ilya Bryzgalov.
Miller and Bryzgalov were fairly matched until a rough 2010 sent the dogs goaltender’s ratings in a downward spiral.
The key to the Sabres being successful tonight is to take the game to Pheonix early, and get what little fan base that shows up out of the game. If the Sabres are lucky a typically maroon crowd might show up bearing signs of blue and gold, helping the Sabres feel at home in the desert.
