Its almost like a perfect storm, to use a blatantly bad pun. The Sabres face the miserable Carolina Hurricanes tonight. What a perfect time to re-kick off their winning ways, which have pretty much been non-existent since travelling West, and a perfect time to get Patrick Lalime in the lineup.
It is probably real easy to say keep playing Miller because we need the points now. I say play Lalime tonight. Why? Well if a picture is worth a thousand words, then the following sums up the Hurricanes this year without saying a word:
I can’t confirm this, but that almost looks like Gary Bettman’s front porch.
The biggest story out of Carolina recently has been the promotion of Erc Stall has the team’s new captain. Since taking over those duties, Stall has been hot – scoring nine goals.
While the Hurricanes need Stall to help them weather the storm (damn I am getting good at indirectly using this bad puns) of a miserable season, the Sabres need to rely on their forwards to continue hot streaks, or get hot. Jason Pominville, Thomas Vanek, and Derek Roy have underperformed this year, but have turned it on as of late. Tim Connolly staying healthy all season (so far knock on wood) and producing the way he has has helped as well.
We will see tonight if the Sabres can maintain their hold on the Northeast, or if they should just cede the position to Ottawa, and take their lumps in the middle of the pack in the East.
