Ok normally I hate listening to local sports talk radio because usually they repeat themselves and talk about their dog eating baby puke more then actually making a point. BUT..I have to agree with some of what Ive been hearing lately. The Sabres need a change whether it be a trade or just turning to each other and saying “WAKE UP AND PLAY HOCKEY!” This time I blame Ruff and the team. Ruff mainly because he’s willing to play Miller until he can no longer stand or hold his stick up anymore. How many goals have we watched him let in lately and said to ourselves…”Are you kidding, what the hell was that?” I know I’ve said it too many times the last 5 games, and if anyone can give me 1 solid reason Miller started either game against Columbus or Carolina I’ll give you a cookie because I can’t think of any. Darcy Regier said and I quote “I dont see anything wrong with this team”….meaning don’t look for a trade anytime this season and also meaning he apparently thinks its a good thing when a 20 year old rookie is playing harder then anyone else on the team.
New Jersey made a splash with their trade to acquire Kovalchuck and in the end didnt give up anything the Sabres couldnt have. If the Devils win the cup or go deep in the playoffs people will say they were geniuses, but even if they don’t nobody will say it was a stupid move. Its an expensive rental for right now but why can’t the Sabres seem to leave their protective bubble and take a chance. If Darcy knew a 10 game winless streak was coming before the Devils trade would he have thought about it, and now that he knows all about it existing and the blunt lack of defense or enthusiasm does someone in the organization talk him into making a deal to spice things up? Many options and names have been tossed around and I don’t have a front runner player I’d like to see them trade for but I would like to see something soon including a win against Boston Tuesday night. This is a massive game in so many ways for Buffalo including ending their losing streak, beating a divisional opponent, and getting 2 points! Oh yah did I mention it’s the BOSTON BRUINS!, if they cant get jacked up for this game and show us a lot more effort and will to want a win, this may very well be the funk everyone fears annually in which the Sabres bring us all back to Earth. I know I’ll be watching tomorrow night’s game a little more closely and expecting to see a much better effort from the Sabres as a team, I’ll take a win I dont care if it’s 1 to 0 and the goal is scored off a shot that bounces off the glass, off 3 other players, off Ruff’s head, clangs around all corners of the goal and slowly slides across the goal line while Miller makes Gatorade flavored sno-cones at the other end of the rink….a win is a win at this point.
