Its the final game before the Olympic break for both teams; one team is smoking hot and the other is trying to bobble their heads above the water and not officially sink to the bottom. Im gonna guess you all know which team is which. San Jose is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and tonight ends a 6 game road trip in which they are 4-1 on so far. Buffalo is 2-6-2 and badly in need of a win and not just a win but a solid effort win. After the Carolina loss Ryan Miller was not shy about publicly showing his displeasure about their play lately. It is very clear their is a lot of frustration in the locker room on all levels and if there is ever a panic game this is it. With both teams going on their Olympic breaks following tonight’s game there is no reason neither team should be going at it less then 110% especially the Sabres. Both teams are sending players to the Olympic games, San Jose is sending 8 and Buffalo 5.
The last time these two teams met it was in San Jose and resulted in a 5-2 home win for San Jose. A positive in the game for Buffalo is they did manage 40 shots on goal and only allowed 24 for San Jose, except 5 managed to find the net. San Jose is high flying and love to push the action with Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley who are both closing in on 40 goals already. Buffalo will look to slow them down but they cannot be shy about taking chances tonight, they need to let it all hang out. Early reports are saying Patrick Kaleta could see some time after skating during yesterday’s practice; that could be a boost in their energy if anything. Connolly, Roy and Vanek really need to keep it going after picking it up in the stat department lately they cannot afford to slump tonight. Miller stated they need to get things going in the right direction, he ended his interview by saying at this rate the team won’t simply coast into the playoffs but may not even make them and that their play is quote “redicolous”. I guess tonight we will see if anyone in the locker room was listening and willing to change that perception.
