2009-2010 Goaltender Review
The Buffalo Sabres used three starting goaltenders this season. Ryan Miller, Patrick Lalime, and Jhonas Enroth. Ryan Miller – The primary starting goaltender and star of the Buffalo Sabres. Ryan Miller set a franchise and personal career high with 41 wins this year. Besting his previous best (personal and franchise) of 40. Ryan Miller took an approach to his job this year where his only focus was on hockey. On locker room clean out day, he said he sacrificed many things this year in order to focus on his hockey. His Zen like approach to goaltending earned him a Vezina [...]
Ruff and Regier together still
The Buffalo Sabres management has been quick to move regarding their front office after being ousted by Boston in six games in the first round of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. While many fans were screaming for the heads of Ruff and Regier – the Sabres have picked up the one year option on Lindy’s contract. That coupled with the fact that Regier has one year left on his, will keep the tandem together through the 2010-2011 season. I think this is directly in line with how the team operates. They won’t buy out a player, so why buyout a [...]
And then there were 8
Eastern Conference With Montreal’s upset of the Washington Capitals in Round One – the Conference Semi-finals are set to begin. Lets take a quick look back at our prediction and how we faired. Montreal wins series 4-3. Sabrenoise prediction: Washington wins 4-1. Probably not the biggest surprise, given the fact that Washington had to try and flip a switch to on that was set to coast at such an early point in the season. Sabrenoise 0-1. Pittsburgh wins series 4-2. Sabrenoise prediction: Ottawa in six. Ok, so I got the number of games right in this one, but figured the Pens wouldn’t have [...]
2010 Free Agency Watch
The July 1st Free Agency deadline usually sees players leaving Buffalo in exodus; this year, there are not any major players that fans could probably live without. To start our post season report cards, were going to take a look at the guys who have to resubmit their resumes to the Buffalo Sabres: Adam Mair (age 31 – $775,000). 2009-2010 Grade: C. I am no Adam Mair hater, but it might be just time for this Sabre to hang up his blue and gold. After bing drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs (1997), he only played 52 games across four [...]
Locker Clean Out Wednesday
There is only one last thing that the Buffalo Sabres have left to do this season, and that is clean out there lockers. For Ryan Miller, there are a slew of awards that he is waiting to hear on if he won or not. Vezina, Messier Leadership, Lester Pearson, The NHL Foundation Award. If you ask him though, I am sure none of them compare to the Silver Medal he won at the Olympics, or the Stanley Cup which he could have won had the team in front of him played better. He’s not going to gripe about it tomorrow [...]
2009-2010 Season Comes to an end.
The goal of the Buffalo Sabres this year was to make the playoffs. They hadn’t been in three season, and the team was hungry for it. It fought off the Ottawa Senators late in the season for the division title, and earned a post season berth with the Boston Bruins. On paper, it looked like the Sabres could beat the Bruins – and probably should have. But on April 26th, 2010 the Bruins handed the Buffalo Sabres their fourth defeat in the conference quarterfinals, succesfully “upsetting” the Buffalo Sabres. The series was exactly what it was touted to be, tight [...]
Sabres staying alive
The weekend is over, and despite being faced with a win or go home situation tonight, the weekend wasn’t as doom and gloom it could have been. A loss in game five really would have put the kabosh on any sort of weekend enjoyment. Tonight the Sabres will once again play for their respective playoff lives. The only thing is – the game is in Boston and they have yet to be able to beat the Bruins at the TD Bank Gardens. Hopefully tonight will be the night. After splitting the first two games of the series, the Bruins forced [...]
Vanek to decide for Game Six
Still gasping for air in the conference quarterfinals, Sabres coach Lindy Ruff has left Thomas Vanek’s status for Game six up to the player. Ruff knows whats on the line, and probably feels that the team could win without Vanek in the lineup, given the teams success in Game five, but the players presence could also help the team get their first road win of the series. We have battled into a must win situation, and gave ourself the benefit of the doubt with a win in game 5, but if you can’t win one one the road, then you’ll [...]
Sabres gasping for air
The Buffalo Sabres proved tonight why they were the division winners, and how Boston’s offensive woes should have looked all season. It took a Lindy Ruff shakeup of the lineup (benching Torres and losing Hecht and Vanek to injury) – and the Bruins finally succumbed to the Sabres talent. With the extra day off before game six, the Sabres might get Thomas Vanek back into the lineup – which may help energize the team even more. The pressure is now even more on the Bruins to win at home. Much like tonight, the Sabres can let it all hang out [...]
Sabres face major hurtle
The Buffalo Sabres have backed themselves into a corner, and are now faced with a one and done situation. There are three games left in this series, two in Buffalo, and one in Boston. The Sabres need a win in all three contests to set up a second round date to a team yet to be determined. Despite falling to Boston in the second overtime, to a ridiculous penalty – the Sabres played the game the way they needed to, but it wasn’t enough. for the fourth game in a row, the Sabres scored the first goal of the game. [...]
