For those teams and fans who are not gearing up for the Stanley Cup Playoffs – the first step towards next season is the NHL Draft Lottery – which will set the order for the 2010 Entry Draft, to be held in Los Angeles at the Staples Center.
The Oilers have the best odds for gaining the 1st Overall Draft Pick, which has produced Tavares and Stamkos in the last two years. The odds of your team getting the first place pick in the draft:
30th place team – 25.0 percent Edmonton
29th place team – 18.8 percent Toronto
28th place team – 14.2 percent Florida
27th place team – 10.7 percent Columbus
26th place team – 8.1 percent New York Islanders
25th place team – 6.2 percent Tampa Bay
24th place team – 4.7 percent Carolina
23rd place team – 3.6 percent Atlanta
22nd place team – 2.7 percent Minnesota
21st place team – 2.1 percent New York Rangers
20th place team – 1.5 percent Dallas Stars
19th place team – 1.1 percent Anaheim
18th place team – 0.8 percent Calgary
17th place team – 0.5 percent St. Louis
Draft rules stipulate that a team can only move down one spot, and up five. So Tampa Bay has a shot at grabbing the top pick in the draft.
The lottery is scheduled to air at 8PM EST and will be on TSN and Versus.
