The Buffalo Sabres have called Cody McCormick up from the Portland Pirates tonight.
McCormick will provided some added toughness to this team in the event that Vanek or Ellis (or both) cannot skate in Game 4.
While its not an elimination game, its a must win for the Sabres. Another loss will put them at three games to one – and would then need to win three in a row to move on to the second round. A hope and a prayer are both necessary – because the way the numbers are holding up if the Sabres win this series, they are on a crash course for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
McCormick could lace up for his first NHL playoff game tonight, but standing in his way is the fact that Vanek and Ellis both took part in the skate this morning.
**Thomas Vanek is going to be a game time decision – one that Lindy Ruff will make during the pregame skate. Matt Ellis will sit out tonights contest after being injured on the Boychuck hit in game three. McCormick will play for Ellis tonight. No word on who the odd man out of the lineup will be if Vanek can play.
