The goal of the Buffalo Sabres this year was to make the playoffs. They hadn’t been in three season, and the team was hungry for it. It fought off the Ottawa Senators late in the season for the division title, and earned a post season berth with the Boston Bruins.
On paper, it looked like the Sabres could beat the Bruins – and probably should have. But on April 26th, 2010 the Bruins handed the Buffalo Sabres their fourth defeat in the conference quarterfinals, succesfully “upsetting” the Buffalo Sabres.
The series was exactly what it was touted to be, tight scoring, hard hitting, and intense. Unfortunately for Buffalo fans, the ride ends tonight. Instead of playing Game 7 on Wednesday the team will be cleaning out their lockers thinking of what could have been.
Not all is lost for this season, two of the Sabres are up for awards at the annual end of the year award ceremony, as Ryan Miller gets a look at the Vezina and Tyler Myers has a chance at the Calder Memorial trophy.
Another end to another year, and while a banner is to be raised come next October, the 2009-2010 Buffalo Sabres join the ranks of other division winning Blue and Gold teams, with nothing more to show.
Continue to follow Sabrenoise throughout the post season. We will have updates, hand out grades on a team and player basis. We will keep you posted on the draft (stay tuned for information on a live NHL draft conducted by Fansided bloggers), the award ceremony, free agency, as we gear up for training camp 2010.
Good night Buffalo.
