Ring Ring Ring……
Thank you for calling the Buffalo Sabres, you have reached the desk of General Manager Darcy Regier; I am unable to answer the phone, if you are interested in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres, please leave a message after the tone; and I will return your call as soon as possible. If you are interested in a first, second, or third round draft choice, or any of the 10 regular players on our team who aren’t unrestricted free agents, we are not interested in a deal, and you are probably asking too much anyway. All others leave a message after the tone.
Ok, so I love the idea that Darcy won’t sell the farm to get burned by a player who might not want to play in Buffalo, or who will demand too much for the small market Buffalo Sabres. I am not saying that Nathan Horton should be a Buffalo Sabre right now. If the Panthers got exactly what they were looking for – then the price was definitely too high for the Buffalo Sabres; even I am not ready to give up that much.
But here we are, three days before the draft, with the same listless roster that for the past three years, has made it to the playoffs once, and then got knocked out in the first round.
I am in no way, thinking the Buffalo Sabres need to overhaul their roster. Far from it, we are talking about the Northeast Division Champion Ryan Miller Buffalo Sabres here.
If your not going to spend the money at free agency to bring talent to HSBC Arena, then you just might have to part with some players that are talented and well liked, to try and get some different talent that might work better at winning some hockey games.
Here we are, same old story, same old song and Sabredance.
