Power Play Quarterback?

Every fan knows the Sabres need a power play quarterback, a phrase we have heard with some frequency as of late. Is Jordan Leopold that player? Leopold had 11 goals this season between playing with the Panthers and the Penguins. The only defenseman with 11 goals on the Sabres last season… Tyler Myers. (Sergei Gonchar, also had 11 goals for the Penguins last season and signed with Ottawa for $5.5 million)

Tyler Myers showed us that his play makes those around him play better. Tallinder’s game was greatly enhanced playing along side the rookie phenom and, perhaps, if one of our other defenseman are paired with Myers their game will improve as well.  Besides, Tallinder had 55 giveaways in 82 games, and Lydman had 49 in 67 games, Leopold only had 29 in 80 games with Florida and Pittsburgh.

Is Leopold the P.P. Q.B. the team needs? Maybe, but Tyler Myers looks  like he will be the guy to quarterback our power-play for many years to come, which is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. Leopold should fit in nicely on the second power play unit or even paired with Myers on the top unit. If anything he gives us another body to try at the point and if his 11 goals are any indicator he seems to find the back of the net.

Who knows, with many days remaining this summer, Darcy and the gang may have more up their collective sleeves.

I think that Leopold is a pretty good pick up. He was solid in Florida last year. Not flashy, but doesn’t make too many mistakes.
