According to the Maine Hockey Journal and more specifically Chris Roy’s twitter (@MEHockeyJournal) The Buffalo Sabres have resigned Derek Whitmore LW. Whitmore born in Rochester, New York, had 34 points (18+17) with Portland last season and three points in four games in the playoffs. Hockey’s Future says,
“Whitmore is a leader who served as a captain at BGSU. He has shown a nice scoring touch and a willingness to sacrifice his body.”
They gave him the rating of a six which means he will ultimately be a third line forward in the NHL, if indeed he makes the jump. But no one can know for sure how players pan out, we will have to just wait and see.
For Portland this means they have a consistent forward who is capable of putting at least ten pucks in the net in any given season. He will add secondary scoring, and leadership on what is shaping up to be a strong Portland team.
