Well, it seems Tomas Kaberle will remain a Leaf until at least the end of the 2010-2011 season.
I know many of us here in Western New York were hoping the ultra-talented defenseman would be traded to the Buffalo Sabres and fulfill the elusive powerplay quarterback position that they desperately need, but that pipe-dream ended yesterday when Kaberle’s no-trade clause kicked back in.
Ultimately it is here nor there. Sure, Kaberle would be an excellent asset to the team, but what would they have had to give up for him? We could have possibly traded away guys like Connolly, Roy or Pominville for him, but getting rid of them would remove a huge chunk of scoring on the team.
Personally, I’m happy with the moves Regier has made this Summer. None of them have been high-profile names, but Regier has subtly made the right moves by signing defensemen like Leopold and Morrisonn.
And who knows? Maybe the Sabres will make another play for him once his contract is finished.
