My work computer is ancient, and not at all current with the updates, so I can’t post pictures. Your going to have to settle with links.
Head over to wgr550.com or icethetics.info for a quick look at what is reportedly an actual leaked copy of the new Buffalo Sabres Away white jersey and new 40th Anniversary Alternate Home.
For the new road jersey, I am so glad to see the original design back in action in the city of Buffalo. I am not a fine of the new Reebok Edge piping, and the grey under the arms is just tacky – but overall the uniform is definitely an upgrade over last years road sweater. (Now if we can just convince the league to wear white at home again). The leaked photographs don’t have any shoulder patches, so it would be interesting to see if they go with one. I for one wouldn’t mind seeing the B with the sabre through it that we have seen since the Black and White era, I could also see them using the primary logo on the shoulders like they use to have as well.
When the story first broke there were some comments that the “slug” could stick around as a secondary uniform logo, which would mean shoulders patches, I think it would distract from the jersey and kill the mood. Wouldn’t put it past them.
On the alternate jersey, its a little different than the concept that was originally posted, but not off by much. I like the simple design, but think that the team could have used a little more originality than going script like every other team in the league. But then again, we did have our black and red era, like almost every other team in the league as well. The scripted text is a little high on the jersey, which makes me wonder about the placement of the C and As; as well as to see if they are going to abandon the number on the front option that they have used for several seasons now. Add those two factors on the jersey and its very cramped up top, with not a lot going on at the bottom.
Nothing is official yet, and they won’t be until the team releases the jerseys officially with Puck Drop 2010 on September 18, 2010 – but it looks like someone got a good snap shot of the new jerseys. At the same time, they could have gotten a shot at a late prototype that never made the final cut.
Great concepts, but I can’t wait the 9 more days until the real ones are released.
