The NHL didn’t make life easy on themselves by scheduling the Buffalo Sabres and Chicago Blackhawks to play twice in the same week.  To me, this is still a problem with the NHL schedule matrix, you want to build rivalries you have quick turn around in games between teams who will meet more than once in or twice in a season.  Buffalo vs Chicago doesn’t spell rivalry.  But thats a topic for another post.

While they were probably not thinking this as a possibility when the created the schedule during the off season, the Niklas Hjalmarsson hit on Jason Pominville has created a proverbial hornets nest for the league.
