There is a lot of work to be done. Lindy Ruff said it. Thomas Vanek said it. The Buffalo Sabres record says it.
The season is only one week old – but the Buffalo Sabres have one win and three points through five games – their only win coming on the road. If road wins are what get us through the season then they will have win number two tonight; and it couldn’t come at a better time. Only problem is, they are playing Chicago in their barn.
It has been an ugly week, it starting with a drumming by New York in the home opener. Then we blew the lead against Chicago, couldn’t get anything going against New Jersey, and almost relived the first game at home for the franchise against Montreal. The Sabres had gone over 118 minutes between goals in the Blackhawk game Monday, and finally scoring late Friday night against Montreal.
This team has some talent on it, Derek Roy is leading the NHL in goals. Despite the team record, the Sabres have a centerman that is currently on a goal a game schedule. There is no way he will keep that pace up and put 82 goals in this seaason, but if he could hit 40 it would be superb.
Its been ugly, but its only going to take one moment to turn it around.
