Sportswriter Jim Kelley Dies
It is with great sorrow that I write these words, but the world lost a great man today. Jim Kelley died today after battling pancreatic cancer. For thirty years he covered the NHL and the Buffalo Sabres, contributing to ESPN, The Buffalo News, and FoxSports. Thank you for the memories Jim, and rest in peace. Your influence on the game will always be remembered.
New Ownership Brewing?
I went to bad last night, with visions of a new captain last night after reading Dave Vogan’s post, and I thought, yes – a new captain would mean a new voice and a new direction. I woke up this morning to hey, there might be a new owner to the Buffalo Sabres soon. Now, before we continue – its all hearsay and rumors at this point, but hell yeah I like this idea. The Buffalo Sabres ownership has gone through several layers, the Knox brothers brought the NHL to Buffalo – but how committed were they to winning. They [...]
Captain Anyone?
The Sabres have yearned for a great captain to take charge and lead the team to Stanley Cup Glory. Philadelphia is loaded with talented leaders such as Danny Briere. Our arch nemesis Boston too is equipped with good, hard working players. And then there’s the Sabres, a team full of…..bland. Is it asking too much for a team that is supposed to have “grizzled” veterans to step up their game? Are the Sabres even aware of the current standings? And how embarrassing is it for Lindy Ruff and the Sabres to bench “captain” Craig Rivet for the fifth time this [...]
Daily Dasherboards
The Buffalo Sabres have pulled a .500 month out in November, leaving them with a sub .500 record, and sitting just above the Toronto Maple Leafs for the last spot in the Northeast Division and five points out of the playoffs. Whats happening around the league? Four of your Buffalo Sabres prospects have made it on the Team Canada training camp roster for the IIHFs U20 tournament to be held here in Buffalo. Team USA will announce their preliminary roster on December 7th. Ducks fans have a new jersey that was unveiled. Sue over at our Anaheim site has a picture posted. [...]
Sabres Roster Has Several Questionable Characters
Nope, were not talking The Riddler here, or reporting sightings of Batman and Robin at HSBC Arena, but rather pointing out the number of question marks on the Buffalo Sabres roster. What Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier commonly refer to as the “core” are nothing more than role players dressed up as stars, this team having nothing special that will put them above and beyond other teams in the league, which is necessary in order to be King of the Hill come June.
Big Weekend for Buffalo Sabres
It is amazing how refreshing it can be to have a serious few days off of work to reset the body and mind. Tonight the Buffalo Sabres will end the month of November with a home and away game against their Northeast Division foes in a set of mirror imaged contests from the first weekend of November. Tonight they face the Toronto Maple Leafs in Buffalo, and tomorrow night they face the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal. The first round of games resulted in a spit, with the Sabres losing to Montreal at home, and then beating Toronto – the Sabres [...]
Site5 and FanSided Holiday Season Charity Drive
We are thrilled to announce our first ever charity effort ever. The cause will be the Boys and Girls Club of America. This is not a fundraiser exclusively for Sabrenoise.com – but the entire network of Fansided sites – so its a pretty big effort! We all know someone, even if it is ourselves that has benefited from a program run by the Boys and Girls Club of America – so it is a charity that hits close to home for everyone, even if it is because there is a BCGA some where in your neighborhood that you see used [...]
Sabres Lose 1-0 in Thanksgiving Snoozefest
We’ve all heard the myth about tryptophan right? You know, the chemical that turkey has that supposedly is the reason why everyone gets so tired after eating it? Well, although the myth is just a myth, I still like to place the blame on it. Maybe the Sabres just enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Despite dropping a 1-0 contest last night to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Buffalo Sabres have given us lots to be thankful for over the years. 1. Jim Schoenfeld. The Man, The Myth, the Legend. Not only did he dazzle fans on the ice, but he even recorded an album. 2. Clint Malarchuk and Richrad Zednik. Two very different players, two very different eras of hockey, connected by a gory life threatening injury, thankfully both players survived and continued playing hockey. 3. Stanly Cup finals visits – despite not winning any championships, the Buffalo Sabres have given us many good playoff [...]
Goaltender Controversy?
As the Sabres prepare for the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight – the question has to be asked. Is there a backup goaltender controversy brewing in Buffalo? Lindy Ruff was quite clear that his confidence in Patrick Lalime wained even more after his gaffe directly resulted in the loss against Tampa Bay – despite him playing well for the other 59 minutes of the game. With Ryan Miller likely to miss tonights game against the Pens, the Sabres could give the nod to Patrick Lalime, who has yet to win a game this season – or go with Jhonas Enroth, who by [...]
