As the Sabres prepare for the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight – the question has to be asked. Is there a backup goaltender controversy brewing in Buffalo?
Lindy Ruff was quite clear that his confidence in Patrick Lalime wained even more after his gaffe directly resulted in the loss against Tampa Bay – despite him playing well for the other 59 minutes of the game. With Ryan Miller likely to miss tonights game against the Pens, the Sabres could give the nod to Patrick Lalime, who has yet to win a game this season – or go with Jhonas Enroth, who by chance is the only Buffalo Sabres goaltending with a record above .500. And in checking in with WGR550 – Enroth will get the nod against the Penguins.
I will be quite clear about my views on the backup goaltender situation – I think it is time that the Lalime era ends and Enroth is brought up to act as Miller’s backup on a full time basis. I don’t care that we have to waive Lalime and risk losing him, but frankly, who is going to pick him up? Let him rot the rest of the season playing behind Williamsville native David Leggio in Portland.
It seems that Thomas Vanek has finally found his stride this season, having a point in the last seven games. Now if we could just get Jason Pominville to where he needs to be – the offense might not appear to crippled. It is laugable that the Population Pominville is stuck at 1 – and we are paying him $5.5 million dollars. Ouch.
Thank the Lord for Luke Adam- with him in the lineup for Tim Connolly, the Sabres actually have some power and drive – and he will definitely win more faceoffs than Connolly.
How much longer are we going to have to play musical benching with the captain before Ruff grabs a pair and gives the “C” to someone else? Mike Weber will be playing in tonights game as the aging and struggling Craig Rivet will watch the game from the Press Box.
