We’ve all heard the myth about tryptophan right? You know, the chemical that turkey has that supposedly is the reason why everyone gets so tired after eating it? Well, although the myth is just a myth, I still like to place the blame on it. Maybe the Sabres just enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner.
Unfortunately I didn’t give the game my undivided attention, but I was physically in front of the television the whole time. I was more focused on the Labatt Blue and swapping stories with my buddies that just got home from grad school. However, there was some things that I did like that I saw in the game:
1. Jhonas Enroth looked stellar.
Despite letting in the only goal, Enroth was sharp, especially in the first period. I was really happy to see the young Enroth play as well as he did. His quickness is unbelievable and although he finds himself out of position sometimes, his speed allows him to get back into the play.
2. Colin Stuart played with tenacity.
Stuart had something to prove and it was obvious. Stuart was all over the net and nearly had a goal early in the first period. I think he is a good addition, especially if he is going to play with that amount of passion.
3. The defense corps played with cohesion.
The geriatric Captain Craig was sat again because he can’t hack it and in his place Mike Weber played. I was really happy to see the defense actually play well together. They seemed to know where the other d-man was and they showed a bit more quickness.
Obviously there were a few things that I didn’t like and of course the offense was one of them. Surprisingly enough the depleted second line of Hecht, Pominville and friends created the most chances last night. Unfortunately I think it’s time to re-think Gerbe. I’m sure the guy has a ton of talent, but his size really hinders him shining. He’s no Danny Briere. Also, I thought Luke Adam looked a little slow out there, but I’m hoping playing the season down in Portland will help his skating progress.
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to check the twitter and the mother site TMM. I will not be writing up a player profile for this week, but look out next week for another installment of it!
