There were plenty of surprises to be had last night in Edmonton.  The Buffalo Sabres must have played these two games in a mirror, because the team on the ice against Calgary looked like it was playing the second night of back to back away games on the West Coast.  In Edmonton they played like they wanted to win – and they looked like a home team playing with a few days off between games.  Maybe the team on the ice wants to play in a way that raises just as many questions as ownership details have risen up recently.  [...]

Derek Roy isn’t the type of player that you build your franchise around, but he will produce a fair amount of points for your team and help lead some offensive plays. I am happy about the Sabres win last night against the Ducks, but there was an annoying little thought that was pulsating in the back of my head the whole game. There’s no special jerseys tonight, the throwback is the fact that Versus has decided in their infinite wisdom not to broadcast the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks tonight.  Instead they are going to feature the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals. I am not a fan of Jeff Foxworthy. But Tim Connolly has become the butt-end of a really bad joke. You know, the “if you force a puck through the neutral zone, take a bad penalty or attempt a pass along the boards and immediately give the puck to the opposing player, you might just be Tim Connolly!” And is it wrong for me to say that Connolly might just be half the protozoa of Maxim Afinogenov? Just when you thought there couldn’t be anyone out there worse then you at hockey, we get to face the Florida Panthers.  Our boys in blue and gold got a win the other night against Boston that this team desperately needed.  Not only was it a regulation win against a division rival, but it was a comeback game that the Sabres are use to losing.  Normally it is us that keeps gaining the lead only to ruin it at the end.  The Sabres are facing a team that shot out to a 3-0 lead against Carolina, only to watch the [...]
