Surprises in Edmonton
There were plenty of surprises to be had last night in Edmonton. The Buffalo Sabres must have played these two games in a mirror, because the team on the ice against Calgary looked like it was playing the second night of back to back away games on the West Coast. In Edmonton they played like they wanted to win – and they looked like a home team playing with a few days off between games. Maybe the team on the ice wants to play in a way that raises just as many questions as ownership details have risen up recently. [...]
Perfect Storm Brewing
The rumors still swirl that Terry Pegula is willing to spend 5.8 percent of his fortune on purchasing the Buffalo Sabres. Not to turn a profit, but to win Stanley Cup’s. Yes, that is right, plural. Well, you know what, it is about time this organization had an owner that was interested in winning Stanley Cups. In it’s brief history, the Sabres have been owned by the Knoxes, the Rigas’, and now Tom Golisano. For the Knoxes, it was more of the limelight that brought them onto the hockey scene, they were the ones that wanted to bring a team [...]
Derek Roy Out For Season
Derek Roy isn’t the type of player that you build your franchise around, but he will produce a fair amount of points for your team and help lead some offensive plays. Unfortunately for the Buffalo Sabres, Derek Roy constitutes a large part of their offense, and the Buffalo Sabres chose Christmas Eve to announce the best offensive player for the struggling team this year will miss the rest of the regular season – requiring surgery to repair a torn left quadriceps tendon. For a team struggling to find its way into the top eight, this could be a blow that [...]
Merry Christmas From Sabrenoise.com
Despite the fact that the Buffalo Sabres have us singing the blues, there is no sense in wasting all of the Holiday Cheer on them. Merry Christmas to all our readers out there. Thank you for the continued support and for staying true to the Blue and Gold!
No respect for anemic Sabres offense
I am happy about the Sabres win last night against the Ducks, but there was an annoying little thought that was pulsating in the back of my head the whole game. On my way home from work I was listening to the Sabres pre-game, like I typically do, and that is when I heard that Anaheim will roll out their back up goalie Curtis McElhinney. In the past when I hear that the Sabres will get to face a backup goalie and even better an unknown backup goalie, I usually get a little giddy. Why wouldn’t I? It’s usually nice [...]
Sabres Roast Ducks For Christmas
Maybe it’s the crunch of the time of the year or the backwards nature of this hockey team, but I have become very cynical over the last couple of weeks. I tore into the team in a post yesterday right before the game. My spin on Winter Wonderland was pretty nasty towards everyone on the team (naming a few players in specific, even some in management), but its truthful. This team is not going to win anything significant with their current makeup, and that starts with the ownership team, team management, and players. This team needs to be overhauled, and [...]
Sabres and Ducks To Play Throwback Game
There’s no special jerseys tonight, the throwback is the fact that Versus has decided in their infinite wisdom not to broadcast the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks tonight. Instead they are going to feature the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals. I can see why this close to the Winter Classic that is going to feature the Washington Capitals that Versus would want to capitalize on the hype, but here are my two biggest issues with the game not being on television tonight – one, its 2010, haven’t you figured out how to broadcast games in separate markets? For a [...]
Sabres Fall Twice In Florida
Was it the fun in the sun? Was it being away from the grey, snowy, dreary city of Buffalo? Whatever it was the Buffalo Sabres gave their fans very little to be happy for this holiday season. In what could have easily been two or four points, the Buffalo Sabres come home empty handed. And I can even say, it wasn’t because of a lack of effort, because we are having this Floridian conversation because of a lack of effort. Forgetting the Islanders, because well, lets just say forget the Islanders – the Buffalo Sabres are two points out of [...]
Waste of Cap!
I am not a fan of Jeff Foxworthy. But Tim Connolly has become the butt-end of a really bad joke. You know, the “if you force a puck through the neutral zone, take a bad penalty or attempt a pass along the boards and immediately give the puck to the opposing player, you might just be Tim Connolly!” And is it wrong for me to say that Connolly might just be half the protozoa of Maxim Afinogenov? It’s like watching a 6 year old trying to do to much with the puck. Don’t get me wrong, the effort is there. [...]
Buffalo Sabres face Florida Panthers
Just when you thought there couldn’t be anyone out there worse then you at hockey, we get to face the Florida Panthers. Our boys in blue and gold got a win the other night against Boston that this team desperately needed. Not only was it a regulation win against a division rival, but it was a comeback game that the Sabres are use to losing. Normally it is us that keeps gaining the lead only to ruin it at the end. The Sabres are facing a team that shot out to a 3-0 lead against Carolina, only to watch the [...]
