The Buffalo Sabres will be taking an odd roster to the Gardens to face off against the division leading Boston Bruins. With an injury to Drew Stafford in the game against the Montreal Canadiens last night, the Buffalo Sabres have elected to call up defensemen Marc-Andre Gragnani from Portland.
The Buffalo Sabres head to Boston looking to gain more ground on the Eastern Conference teams in the top eight. Currently the Buffalo Sabres are eight points behind the Atlanta Thrashers for the final playoff spot. While just last week it looked like catching the division title was as close a goal to catching the eighth place team, the Boston Bruins have put on cruise control lately, and are now 14 points ahead of the reigning champions.
Losing Drew Stafford could be worse for the Buffalo Sabres than losing Derek Roy, especially against the Boston Bruins. As Stafford creeps up on the team lead in goals rivaling Thomas Vanek’s output, just about half of Stafford’s goals are against the Boston Bruins.
It looks like it will be another backup goaltender for the Buffalo Sabres, as Tuuka Rask should be getting the nod – although a little of that glamour is lost on the fact that the Boston Bruins are carrying two goaltenders who have proven that they can handle starting duties in the NHL.
