The Buffalo Sabres play host to the New York Islanders tonight and there is a lot at stake. Most importantly is the two points that Buffalo needs to continue their crawl towards a playoff spot. Secondary to winning the game for that reason, will be a little retribution for the thumping that Tavares and company gave to the Sabres last Saturday.
Questions arise for the start of the game, with goaltender Ryan Miller being a game time decision. Ryan Miller has not left the Sabres crease since November 24 – and with the Sabres needing every point they can get their hands on, it has to be really hard for Lindy Ruff to hand the reigns over to Patrick Lalime, who has yet to find the win column this year. If Ryan Miller does start it will be his 24th straight start. Ryan Miller is 4-0 against the Islanders in the last four contests at HSBC Arena.
The key for Buffalo to win tonight is to get on the Islanders fast, as the Islanders struggle when playing from behind – especially early in the first. While the Sabres got on the board first last Saturday, it wasn’t early enough to take the life out of the Islanders, despite playing in the lifeless building.
Despite taking a slap shot off the cast last night against Bruins, Pat Kaleta is going to continue to play through the pain, expect him to be the usual pain in the ass type player, but don’t forget when it comes to the face to face after the whistle plays, Kaleta won’t be dropping the gloves.
