Your Morning Sabres 2/6/11

Well, that was a good win last night, huh? I’m glad to see some balance scoring and everything, but what has had me the most impressed is the play of Drew Stafford. Typically in the past I’ve given Stafford grief for his inconsistency and his underachieving mentality, but I can’t complain this season. Sure, Stafford has been riddled with injuries, but he is still playing better than he ever has.

Which got me thinking.

I really hope Stafford’s increase in effort and talent isn’t corresponding to the fact that it is a contract year. I really don’t know how much of that plays into these kinds of things, but it would really be a disappointment if the Sabres sign Stafford and he reverts back to his old ways again. If that is the case, I really hope the Sabres give a long thought over whether not it is still beneficial to keep Stafford on the payroll. There are still plenty of games left for Stafford to prove me wrong, but the past doesn’t typically lie.
