Big win last night, but unfortunately the pesky Hurricanes also continue to keep pace with the Sabres; however, the Hurricanes’ win could have been a beneficial one for the Sabres. While the New York Rangers may have King Henry manning the crease for them, he was no match tonight for the Buffalo Sabres and Emperor Enroth. There are quite a few games on the schedule tonight that will directly effect the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff race.  The most pressing matchup for us obviously is the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers.  While a loss doesn’t cripple us, it will hurt a little.  The Rangers are ahead of us in the standings by two points.  Even if the Sabres win, they would not jump over the Rangers, as the Rangers have more regular season wins in the same number of games.  The Montreal Canadiens and the Carolina Hurricanes also play tonight, and scoreboard watching [...]

It has to be very stressful this time of the for hockey players on teams in playoff spots six through nine – not knowing exactly what the next two weeks are going to hold.  If fans are all over the internet watching scoreboards, news, and opinions, then players have to be even tenser about it. With just a few games to go, the Sabres are looking like they have at least the 8th spot on lock– knock on wood, of course. It’s nice to see because the Sabres have come a long way, especially with a terrible start to the Season. Part of the turnaround has come from the young-guns picking up their game. If your not going to get help from the teams on the out of town scoreboard, you have to take matters into your own hands.  The Buffalo Sabres have done just that in the last three games.  With shutouts against the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils, and a 4-2 victory against the Florida Panthers have the Buffalo Sabres in firm control of the eighth and final playoff spot, and knocking on the doors of the seventh place New York Rangers. It’s still a little early to put it into cruise control,  but the Buffalo Sabres are definitely controlling their own fate in the standings.  The Carolina Hurricanes continue to threaten the eighth and final playoff spot currently held by the Sabres, but as long as the Sabres  keep on winning and piling on the points, Carolina’s pressure at this point is more like a drizzle than a hurricane. You almost have to feel bad for the Florida Panthers.  They are one loss away from watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the tenth time in a row.  If the NHL wanted to make one of those history will be made commercials about them the next time they do make the playoffs, they have enough bad memory film to make that a full length feature film as opposed to a several second commercial.

The Sabres have an important game tonight. Sure, all games are important at this time of year, but tonight is especially important because the Sabres are playing a team they struggle to beat.
