Quarterfinal Matchups Sabres vs Flyers

Game One is in the books.  A team that was annointed to win the Stanley Cup earlier this season was booed off the ice.  The Sabres scored much more than just one goal in this game, they scored a huge victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Buffalo Sabres lead the Philadelphia Flyers just 1-0 in the series, and I am not going to get too excited this early.  Remember, the Flyers did come back on the Boston Bruins last year after going down 3-0 in the series to win four straight.  Let’s give Philadelphia a little bit of respect and know that they can accomplish it again.  In the same regards, the Sabres one goal win last night did not give the Flyers that much to get angry about, so we shouldn’t expect them to come out anymore fired up Saturday evening; then they did last night.

The Buffalo Sabres don’t have command in this series, and they don’t have the upper hand, but if Ryan Miller continues to play the same way he played Wednesday night, I will one goal game Philadelphia to death in a heart beat.

“Bobs” did a great job early on of not letting out the juicy rebounds – it slowed the game down a little bit, but the kid did a good job of going save for save with Ryan Miller.  On the down side, we only tested him with 25 shots – we need to fire the puck at this kid more to get him off his game.  If the Senators and Islanders can light the lamp on this kid, there is no reason why we cannot do the same.

It was in no ways a perfect game by either team.  Mistakes were made, and luckily for both teams, no one was really able to capitalize on the mistakes.  If the Buffalo Sabres can come out and play Saturday like they did last night – and Philly turns in the same effort, the Flyers could be looking at a 2-0 hole coming back to Buffalo.  It’s a seven game series – its far from over.  History tells us that the winner of game one in a Buffalo/Philadelphia series wins the series.  If that comes true, I will drink to that.
