Do You Make The Call
If the rumors are true, the New York Rangers are considering buying out the contract of former Buffalo Sabres captain Chris Drury – and other players in order to free up cap space in order to make a run for the coveted free agent this summer, Brad Richards of the Dallas Stars.
Happy Memorial Day
The rain has let up a little, and as we continue to dry out in Western New York, there will be plenty of flags waving, parades watched, cookouts, fire pits, beer, food, and get togethers. Let us pause for a few moments on one of the most sacred secular days of the calender and reflect on the importance of today.
One Less Passionate Fan….The Loss of a Friend
When I first joined this network, several years ago there was one focus – and that was football. Then we expanded, and the family grew larger. Everone knows what a family is. Eugene over at Broad Street Buzz defines it pretty well. When you write for Fansided – you don’t just get a URL and off you go. We talk to each other, we help each other, and we become life long friends, even if the correspondence remains emails, text messages or the random phone call. Those that travel will look up another writer to catch a beer before a [...]
Beginning the End of an Era
Since February, the news surrounding the Buffalo Sabres has been rather positive. A new owner who loves hockey, is a big fan, and wants to win a Stanley Cup no matter what. Brad Boyes was brought in at the trade deadline, and despite his disappearing act in the playoffs, seemed to compliment the roster well. The slug is going to be dead. Theres a logo in the locker room. The locker room is being remodeled. The French Connection was rejoined, albeit briefly. We had a pretty decent run against the Flyers before falling apart late in game six and game [...]
Sabres Returning To Rochester?
Ted Black didn’t say it was out of the realm of possibility that the Buffalo Sabres return to their affiliation with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Conference Finals Set
The conference finals are set, and at the end of the series, new champions will be crowned. The Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning have seen this forum before, both having made it at one point or another in their history’s. A victory for San Jose or Vancouver will be the first time a conference banner graces the barn of one of these teams.
Upcoming Free Agency: A New Flutie/Johnson?
The Buffalo Sabres are coming up on a very exciting off-season. Terry Pegula has lifted any self-imposed salary cap and is aiming to bring multiple Cups to the starving fanbase in Western New York. The problem is that this Sabres team is comprised of a large core of under-talented overachievers and overpaid average players. They’re on the cusp, and they’ve got to know who is wheat and who is chaff, and the wrong move could land them buried in mediocrity for another 3 or 4 years. (seeing as these are all opinions, please comment and share yours)
Goal Line Gaffs
The Jersey Foul. There are plenty of them out there, and it is a common thread on Puck Daddy as he and his viewers point out the many ways that fans desecrate the sweaters in the various pro leagues around the United States. The hockey sweater is almost a religious icon. While the name on the front use to mean a hell of a lot more than the name on the back, and they literally actually used to be sweaters – the modern bastardized versions of what a player wears when he represents a team is something that fans [...]
Happy Mothers Day
It’s the one day of the year that a Mom actually gets the day off – sort of. As you wake up this morning and read this, Mom’s across the nation are opening up gifts, getting breakfast in bed, and maybe getting some playoff hockey tickets for all her hard work throughout the year. How about a Hockey Mom Shirt?
Rooting Interest, Part 2
Ding Dong the Flyers are gone! In what has turned into a second round of beatings and sweeps and almost sweeps, it makes you wonder if some teams left have enough in the gas tank to make it through two more rounds. Both Eastern Conference power houses (Philadelphia and Washington) are out by the second round again this year, falling in the second round to sweeps by seemingly inferior team (Tampa Bay and Boston). In the West, Detroit and Nashville are barely holding on to life in their series where every game has become an elimination game.
