Ding Dong the Flyers are gone!
In what has turned into a second round of beatings and sweeps and almost sweeps, it makes you wonder if some teams left have enough in the gas tank to make it through two more rounds. Both Eastern Conference power houses (Philadelphia and Washington) are out by the second round again this year, falling in the second round to sweeps by seemingly inferior team (Tampa Bay and Boston). In the West, Detroit and Nashville are barely holding on to life in their series where every game has become an elimination game.
Which brings to light the question once again, as a Sabres fan, who are you ready to root for for the 2011 Stanley Cup? Despite their role as our division rival, I am ready to ride the Bruins until their demise this year. Trust me when I say this is a fleeting allegiance that will dissolve the minute the B’s lose or win eight more games – trust me, I coudln’t stand the vomit tase in my mouth if it lasted any longer. Tampa Bay could make an interesting case for me to root for them as champions as well, because they have been their before.
Detroit is the closest thing to a dynasty in the modern era that we can see, and I would like to see some new guys lift the Cup. It gets a little old seeing the same sweaters parading the trophy around a rink. Vancouver, Nashville, and San Jose are out becuase, well I am tired of other cities winning it before me, and I would rather see someone who has been there before someone gets their first crack at it while I am still waiting for my first one.
