Ted Black didn’t say it was out of the realm of possibility that the Buffalo Sabres return to their affiliation with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Now WGRZ is reporting that a letter of intent to buy the AHL team has been signed by the owner of the Buffalo Sabres. The Buffalo Sabres have not confirmed this story, nor has anyone from the Rochester franchise left a comment at this point. The last time these types of rumors swirled around the Sabres they were intitially hidden, denied, and altered until the final release of information was made public.
There are a few kinks that need to worked out before the team could legally buy the Amerks, returning the AHL franchise to the Sabres farm team after a brief hiatus. Prior sales talk of the Amerks have included the sale of the Rochester indoor lacrosse team – which a Sabres owner could not purchase because of a rule that says you cannot own two franchises in the same sport.
While the city of Portland has done a fine job of hosting the Buffalo Sabres prospects on the Pirates roster – their is something to be said about having your junior talent no more than a 45 minute car ride a way.
