Reports are that the deal to complete the sale of the Rochester Americans to the Buffalo Sabres is complete. Expect a press conference Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. This would cause an AHL realignment, as the Sabres would be leaving their arrangement with the Portland Pirates.
Im all in on this deal, as there is no reason not to have your AHL affiliate as close as possible. At a time when teams are regionalizing and moving their affiliates closer, the Sabres bucked that trend and moved further away several years ago; taking up roots in Portland.
In othe Sabres/Amerks related news, Nathan Paetsch is leaving the land of the NHL/AHL and has signed a one year contract to play in the German Hockey League for EHC Wolfsburg. Paetsch played last season for the Amerks/Crunch while under contract for the Vancouver Canucks, never making it to the NHL.
Paetsch made the decision to go to Germany based on the fact that he did not sense an NHL deal for him this year, and former Amerks teammate Norm Milley who is now playing for Wolfsburg. Paetsch was living in Spencerport – his home since his first tour with the Amerks.
