Sabres Sign Gerbe to Long Term Deal

It appears that the Buffao Sabres have inked restricted free agent Nathan Gerbe to a long term deal. **EDIT 1:18PM – while long term was how it was first described to me, its more like a multi-year deal, with the deal being three years.  I have heard the number to be around the 4-5 million dollar range.

Terms and conditions have yet to be released, but it eliminates the chance of Gerbe opting to go to arbitration.  The Buffalo Sabres still have to get contracts done for Jhonas Enroth, Andrej Sekera, Mike Weber, and Marc Gragnani.

Of those four, all but Jhonas Enroth are eligible for arbitration this year.  Hopefully Sekera, Weber, and Gragnani watched carefully the saga that unfolded with Tim Kennedy in arbitration.  I would hate to see the Buffalo Sabres walk away from any of these three because they don’t like the contract the hearing brings.

I am sure we will have more on this as more information becomes available.

Interested to see what the numbers for Gerbil’s contract are. Chad LaRose, who just re-signed with Carolina, had virtually identical numbers last year, and will receive an average of $1.7 over the next 2 years. I didn’t think Gerbe would get that much, considering that last year was his first full season. Perhaps that last point will lessen the damage a bit.

3 years, $1.433 million per year. I love it.

I just watched the highlight reel goal he scored to tie Philly to put us into the playoffs last year. Loving this deal and can’t wait to see what he can do on the ice this year.
