Christian Ehrhoff has signed with the Buffalo Sabres. Full credit goes to Buffalo Wins for breaking this story first on Twitter, risking their reputation but knowing that they had it right.
Wow. That’s all I can say. In the course of the week the Buffalo Sabres have completely overhauled the look of their
defense entire goddamn team. They went from a group of kids with a Gaping Blue Line to an absolutely stacked defensive core. Bob McKenzie said on the radio that the deal is 10 years and $40 million. He is now the highest paid Sabres defender ever…topping Robyn Regehr who just signed earlier this week. Wow.
I’ll update this as terms come to light, but the meaning of this trade is unbelievable. Ehrhoff rejected a multi-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks who just won the President’s Trophy and were in the Stanley Cup Finals. He rejected a supposedly larger deal with the Islanders. He was absolutely intent on making it to free agency, and he would’ve gotten there if it wasn’t for Terry Pegula, Ted Black, Darcy Regier, and the Buffalo Sabres.
Update: straight from Bob McKenzie’s Twitter account: Year1: $8M signing bonus, $2M salary. Year 2: $5M signing bonus, $3M salary. Talk about front loaded.
