The Sabres announced today that they have signed defenceman Andrej Sekera and forward Matt Ellis to multi year deals. Sekera was set to go to arbitration next week but couldn’t turn down the Sabres offer. He set career highs last year in points and assists (29-26) after only playing in 76 games. Sekera has been streaky at times but last year really stood out as one of the teams top defenceman. With the additions of Robyn Regehr and Christian Ehrhoff on the back end, the Sabres now have a solid defensive core. Forward Matt Ellis signed a two year, two way contract today. He played 52 game last season in Portland and served as the teams captain. Ellis will most likely spend the season in Rochester and again serve as captain. With these two signed the Sabres now have to get Jhonas Enroth and Marc Andre Gragnani signed to make the roster for the 2011-2012 season complete.

Darcy Regier said today that Jason Pominville is healing nicely and should be ready for training camp come September.

After a long wait Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed on a 5 year 37.5 million dollar contract. He will be a UFA in 5 years when he is 26 years old. I can only imagine what kind of pay day he will get July 1, 2016.
